pregnant woman curious about her pregnancy options

Finding out you’re pregnant while still in college can feel overwhelming. On top of worrying about homework and grades, you’re also likely feeling nauseous, emotional, and wondering what to do next—this is all understandable. But you don’t have to juggle all this alone.

As a pregnant student, you have federally protected rights that are in place to help ensure that you have what you need to succeed academically. This article will highlight your rights as a pregnant student according to Title IX.

But if you want to talk to someone about your pregnancy or learn about free resources that are here to help, contact Alabama Pregnancy Test Center today to schedule a confidential appointment.

What Are My Rights as a College Student Who’s Pregnant?

According to Title IX, a federal civil rights law, you are entitled to the following:

  • The ability to continue participating in classes and extracurricular activities without discrimination
  • Excused absences related to pregnancy or childbirth
  • The ability to return to class in the same academic standing and the opportunity to complete missed work
  • The option of homebound teaching or tutoring
  • Accommodations, such as a larger desk, more bathroom breaks, access to the elevators, etc.

This list isn’t exhaustive, so meeting with your school counselor as soon as possible is important to discuss your pregnancy and ensure you receive access to everything you’re entitled to.

Along with your federally protected rights to help you succeed as a college student who’s pregnant, you also have other supportive resources available to you.
